Noise Induced Hearing Loss

Noise Induced Loss (Industrial Deafness) occurs when exposure to high intensity noise of a period of time, or a one off high-level acoustic trauma, causes damage to your hearing.

Your employer has a duty to protect your health while you are at work. You may be entitled to claim compensation if you have developed hearing loss due to your employers failure to protect you from a noisy environment.

Causes of hearing loss can range from a one-off loud noise, such as an explosion in close proximity to you, or by continual exposure over a period of time such as regular use of industrial machinery, damaging your hearing over a period of time due to unsafe working practices or environments. It can affect one ear or both at the same time.

Common Symptoms of Hearing Loss:

  • Lack of hearing in one or both ears

  • Missing full sentences or part of a sentence during a conversation

  • Struggling to hear people speaking when there is background noise

  • Having to turn up the tv or radio to a higher volume to hear them properly

  • Constant ticking, ringing, buzzing, hissing, droning and roaring noises

  • Construction

You can still make a claim if the company you worked for is no longer in business or if you no longer work for them. We can find out who your employer’s insurers were and we will make contact with them about your hearing loss case.

Claim Time Limit

Hearing loss can often take years to develop or become noticeable. You will usually have up to 3 years to make a compensation claim for hearing loss. This 3 year time period will start from when you first started to notice these symptoms and believed that they were caused by you carrying out your job at your place of work.
