Medical Mistakes can be Life Changing
When you're a patient, you trust you're in good hands, but even the best doctor or nurse can make a mistake.
It was recently announced that a man could receive up to £100,000 compensation from Broadgreen Hospital in Liverpool after he was mistakenly given a vasectomy and the unsuccessful reversal has left him infertile. The surgeon has since been sacked but the damage was already done. The patient went in for a minor urological procedure but as he was on the “wrong site” ended up being given a vasectomy by mistake.
Willie King suffered from diabetes and unfortunately had to have his leg amputated. Even more unfortunate for Mr King was the fact that the hospital amputated the wrong leg, and by the time anyone noticed, it was too late to save it. After finally having the correct leg amputated at a different hospital, Willie received a sum of $1.5 million from University Community Hospital in Florida.
Alexander Baez, the former Mr Mexico and runner up Mr Universe was willing to go to extreme lengths to preserve his looks and decided to get peck implants to further his body building career. After waking up in excruciating pain, Mr Baez soon realised that whilst he had been given implants, they were in fact C-cup breast implants. The man responsible for this extreme case of malpractice was Reinaldo Silvestre, a man who had posed as a doctor and had no legitimate medical credentials. Silvestre had forged documents and had also operated on at least two women in Florida using kitchen utensils.
